Daystar University Students’ association (DUSA) officials Athi River campus have defied the Vice Chancellor’s proposal of having a student Baraza on 29th November, instead they have rescheduled it to an early date.
In a statement released on Monday to the students, the officials said that after a wide consultation they saw it good to reschedule the Baraza that was supposed to be held on 29th November to mid-November. They have insisted that under all circumstances the Vice Chancellor Dr. Timothy Wachira must attend.
According to DUSA Athi River they have pushed the Baraza to 15th of November at 3:30 at the Amphitheatre. Led by Karwitha Kirimi DUSA chair ,they reached the decision after considering a number of issues.
“After extensive consultation and deliberation within the student body, the student government holds firm that; it is not in the best interests of students to have a Baraza on 29th November, as proposed by the Vice Chancellor,” read the statement.
First and foremost they said that they are against the Vice Chancellor’s proposed date because the date is too close to the exam period and they fear that only few students will attend yet they are the main stakeholders. At this time the students will be busy preparing for their exams.
Secondly they said that the issues at stake are so urgent and need to be addressed with urgency and commitment.
Additionally they said that going by the date given to them by the Vice Chancellor it will indicate that the strength and integrity of the association is undermined.
This comes at a time when officials are working diligently to correct their mistakes as leaders and also ensure that problems facing the students are given a priority.
